Short Film program & Panel Discussion
Through the Singularity
10.13 | Saturday, 7:00pm | Littlefield
The film program will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers Adela Komrzy, Marianna Milhorat, and Caleb Foss, moderated by professor of media history and theory Deborah Levitt, whose most recent book is The Animatic Apparatus: Animation, Vitality, and the Futures of the Image (Zero Books).
Algorithms, automation, futurism, and dystopia. The structure and character of modern life is shifting in ways that would have been incomprehensible to previous generations. The films in this program chart highly varied and uncommon paths: sci-fi secret histories of the last thirty years of tech invention, found-footage dystopian micro-epics, calmly nightmarish yet believable accounts of the next stages of forced upgrading, poetic essays into the risks of close observation, and other haunting expeditions into a vastly interconnected 20XX and beyond.
