Winners Announced for the 9th Imagine Science Film Festival and SYMBIOSIS competition


The 9th Imagine Science Film Festival winners were announced last night at our Closing Night Wrap Party in the New Lab. Congratulations to all for your magnificent work. Here are our winners!

archivesmallThe Scientific Merit Award is awarded by a jury to the film that exemplifies science in storytelling and narrative filmmaking in a compelling, credible and inspiring manner. A cash prize of $2,500 is provided to the awarded filmmaker. This award is provided by Imagine Science Films.

Winner: Archives of Extinction
Runner up: Gagarine

F015_C039_09273AThe Chroma Visual Science Award is a $500 award given to the film that best depicts science in a visually-engaging manner by Chroma Technology who design and manufacture optical filters.

Winner: Process: Breath
Runner up: The Secret World of Moths



Authorea Scientist Award is given to a film that portrays in an accurate and inventive way the life of a scientist. The winner receives a $500 cash prize and a year-long subscription to Authorea, a journal that reinvents how to read, write, cite, and publish research. The goal of this award is to encourage more scientists to create films that let us into their minds, labs, and lifestyle.

Winner: Reconsolidation
Runner up: The Researcher’s Article

DaPeople’s Choice Award is given to the film that receives the most audience votes during the festival. A cash prize of $1,000 is provided to the awarded filmmaker. This award is provided by Imagine Science Films.

The award of $1,000 is given by Tribeca Film Institute.

Runner up: Jason Chew & Rodrigo Valles Jr.
