The Scientific Merit Award is awarded by a jury to the film that exemplifies science in storytelling and narrative filmmaking in a compelling, credible and inspiring manner. A cash prize of $2,500 is provided to the awarded filmmaker. This award is provided by Imagine Science Films.
The Chroma Visual Science Award is a $500 award given to the film that best depicts science in a visually-engaging manner by Chroma Technology who design and manufacture optical filters.
Authorea Scientist Award is given to a film that portrays in an accurate and inventive way the life of a scientist. The winner receives a $500 cash prize and a year-long subscription to Authorea, a journal that reinvents how to read, write, cite, and publish research. The goal of this award is to encourage more scientists to create films that let us into their minds, labs, and lifestyle.
People’s Choice Award is given to the film that receives the most audience votes during the festival. A cash prize of $1,000 is provided to the awarded filmmaker. This award is provided by Imagine Science Films.

Tribeca Film Institute Symbiosis Award is given to the winning duo of the 2016 Symbiosis Competition, our yearly short film competition which brings together scientists and filmmakers to create a science-inspired short film. The award of $1,000 is given by Tribeca Film Institute.
