Returning this spring as part of the Imagine Science Film Festival in Abu Dhabi!
Workshops from Imagine Science Films teach students science through filmmaking. Our goal is to help students create a window into the world of a science lab, enabling them to appreciate science through the filmmaking process and then to share the results with others.
2018 THEME
Hybrid Creature
Hybrid Creature
During Imagine Science Abu Dhabi 2018, we will once again work with local middle and high schoolers to encourage the production of films exploring science.
Students shoot on their mobile devices and come with footage ready for download. They will then receive a short course in editing, in order to put together short films on the topic, which will be given a special screening at the festival!
TIMELINE
Students shoot film clips on their phones on the hybrid creature theme in the weeks leading up to the March 4 workshop. Participants should invent a new hybrid creature in their film!
March 4: Day session will be a series of talks and workshop which give students a foundation in science on film and video production/editing. 9-30-11:30am, editing class and Imagine Science presentation followed by lunch and a 12:30-4pm editing workshop. Films are turned in afterwards.
March 7: Films will be screened in schools and three winning films will be incorporated into Imagine Science Abu Dhabi 2018 over the course of the following weekend, March 8-10, or the accompanying exhibition Hybrid Futures!
RULES
Tell a story using pictures; try and get a range of different shots to communicate your idea around the theme. Some shots you can get with your phone include: Landscape, wide, action, medium, and group shots.
Sound and music of the film must correspond to the sound of the animal created.
Sound library will be provided by Carlos Guedes and his team from NYU Abu Dhabi from the project "Sounds of Sir Bani Yas Island - NYU".
Final Film Delivery (no longer than 2 mins) after workshop.
